Hope everybody has an outstanding long weekend! I'm pretty pumped to be getting out a little early to get on the road up to Chicago to start the wedding festivities for Andy and Daria's wedding... rehearsal dinner tonight!

Plus, I've been focusing on getting some serious rest this week and it has totally paid off! Thanks to everybody who has been praying for me to get some extra rest this week- it's definitely been answered! Yesterday, even as the day went on, I felt really great! And now last night I slept 9 wonderful hours! (So of course I feel great this morning so far!) Mike said to me yesterday, in response to my "feeling good" comments... "Well good! You're carrying my baby... I want you to be 'good'!"

Lots of pics from the coming weekend I'm sure, so I'll post in the next few days :)

Have a great time with your friends and family on this long weekend- drop me a comment and tell me what you are doing!

11 weeks today!

So this week baby is the size of a lime. Baby's fingers and toes are no longer webbed, and things like fingernails, toenails and tooth buds are forming this week. It's just so amazing to think about all the miraculous things happening inside my body all day, every day, and that every single person ever born went through the same things in their own mother's womb. So cool!

I'm feeling okay this week, and once again, I hate to complain at all... I just keep waiting for my energy to return! I've gotten into a pretty good routine of taking it easy in the evenings after work, and our weekends have been relatively uneventful for much of the past month, so it wasn't until this past weekend that I noticed how much the smaller things take a toll on me these days! Mom and I went shopping for just a few hours in the morning on Saturday, and even that made me so tired when we were done!

It's getting harder to ignore the ever growing bump, which seems to expand nearly every morning when I wake up! Though I'm sure to the average person, I just look a little more round and not neccessarily pregnant yet. I'll take another picture this weekend, probably at Andy and Daria's wedding (maybe I'll get somebody else to take it so Mike can get in there with me too- he hasn't made enough appearances on this blog yet!) And in the meantime, I'm just trying to rest as much as I can before the busy weekend ahead, and keep praying that everybody's promises that "you feel so much more like yourself in the second trimester" come true!

A Mexican Fiesta!

This weekend, I headed to Chicago for the first of two weekends in a row. Daria had her bachelorette party on Saturday night, and I was responsible for the food. The theme was a Mexican fiesta, so I had a little fun with the menu. Chicken fajitas with all kind of toppings, taco dip and a black bean and corn salad too. Thanks to mom for all the help with the food preparation... we were able to knock out all the cooking in record time!

The girls were kind enough to fix a batch of non-alcoholic margaritas for me, so I got to sip a drink right along with the rest of them. It tasted just as good as it looked!

And here's a lovely pic of the bride. You can't see it too well in this picture, but her sombrero has a veil attached. Extremely cute idea from the maid of honor!

The Champion!

Mike came home from the "Regional Challenge" night at work with a trophy! They went bowling and apparently Mike's team won. Way to go!

I instantly thought of one of our favorite shows, "The Office", and Michael Scott with all his "Dundees"...

spoiled puppy

10 weeks today!

Can't think of a better way to mark 10 weeks of pregnancy than getting to hear baby's heartbeat for the first time today! It took the nurse a minute to find it- she explained this is about as early as you can find it with a doppler. I kept asking her if she'd heard it yet and she said she had just hadn't got a good enough read yet. She also said I would know it when she found it, and sure enough she was right, loud and clear, that was a FAST heartbeat. Baby's heartbeat was at 169 (it was 135 at our ultrasound three weeks ago).

Everything checked out great at the doctor's appointment. I've only gained a little less than a pound since my first weigh-in last month, most likely due to my "evening sickness" over the past few weeks, that has thankfully subsided! (We'll see if I actually log my overall weight gain as things pick up in the coming months, I make no promises, haha)

And baby is the size of a small plum this week, for those of you interested in how the baby's growing. Basically the only update my book gave me on baby this week is that he or she is "starting to look more human". Well that's good :)

Baby Bump 9 1/2 weeks

I decided to take a baby bump picture about every 2 weeks- I've hired my husband to be the photographer for all these pictures :) I've definitely noticed a change in my body in the last 2 weeks, and the bloat I was dealing with early on is gone and a definite bump is starting to appear (to me at least, and Mike has noticed too)

It's funny, looking at the picture from two weeks ago, I think I actually looks smaller this week. I also found out this week that my mom "popped" early, in her words, with both me and my brother, so I don't know if I'm in for the same. (Also found out that Mom gained 60 pounds while pregnant with me... sorry Mom!)
As far as other updates on how I'm doing this week, aside from the mess that was yesterday's emotional meltdown, I've been feeling relatively great! Still sleeping a ton, and when I wake up in the morning, I'm already tired! But I've been eating great this week, and feeling more like myself in general. As my body continues to change its really starting to settle in that baby is actually on the way :)

hello, mood swings

Now I know Mike would beg to differ, but I was starting to think maybe I wasn't going to suffer from extreme mood swings, the way that my books have warned me to expect.

What to expect when you're expecting states that 7 out of 10 pregnant women experience "runaway emotions" during pregnancy. I guess I just thought I was one of the 3 that wouldn't :(

That was, until today... I realized "runaway emotions" were in fact going to be something I experience in pregnancy.

Little baby, I love you so very much already, and oh my, are you taking me for a wild ride!

The both of us

Last night, our women's small group had a fun night planned to go to a restaurant in downtown Urbana, V Picasso, for tapas and music. I had a great time, and stayed out til the late hour of 9:30pm. When I arrived home, I was greeted by the dog who was waiting for me in the living room, but no husband. Headed upstairs and found him sound asleep in bed. All this time I thought I was dragging him up to bed in the early evening hours against his will. Nope, looks like the both of us are pregnant... Mike needs his rest too!

"Extra pregnant"

I'm just sitting here pondering how something the size of a grape can be wreaking so much havoc on my body. One of my co-workers referred to it as feeling "extra-pregnant today" (as in, are you feeling extra pregnant today, Amy?)

Yes, today I do in fact feel extra pregnant.

Will most days be "extra pregnant" days from here on out? We'll have to wait and see...

I'm thankful for the extra pregnant days, because they remind me of all the important work my body is doing. And I do look forward to many more!

9 weeks today

Today marks 9 weeks of pregnancy! In some ways, its gone by very quickly... we've known well over a month now! But in other ways, staring at 31 more weeks before we get to meet our little one feels far, far away.
They say that baby is the size of a grape this week. (Last week was a raspberry... week before that was a blueberry.) There's a website that compares baby to a different fruit every week (yes, I skipped ahead to week 40, and the comparison is to a small pumpkin... yikes!)
I'm feeling a bit better this week compared to the last 2, which has been really great. Still so tired that I can't wait to get home in the evening and lay down though... but that shouldn't be lasting too much longer! Thank goodness for Mike picking up a lot of my slack in the last week or so- he's been taking great care of me :)
And I'm definitely starting to feel excited about thinking about all things baby- what we'll register for, how we'll decorate the nursery, names, etc. Another doctor appointment coming up next week, so that's something to look forward to as well (yes, I actually look forward to these doctor appointments!)

Bear's World Part 2

Last week, both baby and Bear received some very thoughtful gifts from our friends. We usually don't buy squeaky dog toys (based on the fact that they squeak and squeak and squeak) so it's been awhile since Chez had one. Here she is above, squeaking away with joy while she and Mike have fun playing. Thanks Holly and fam, for giving Bear what is probably her last squeaky toy, because I have determined this is NOT a toy I would give a dog if I had a sleeping baby in the house! Squeak away, Chez, you've got about 7 months of squeaky joy left :)

Bear's World

There's a WHAT on its way?!?!?!

27 Dresses on a Friday night

I was so excited to see a movie I'd only seen once a couple years ago on TV from 7-9 last night. From a woman who has been going to bed in the range of 8:30-8:45 each night, I thought for sure this would be a great incentive to keeping me up until at least 9pm on a Friday night. I was really enjoying the movie, too...
Until I woke up this morning and said to Mike, "I didn't see the end of the movie, did I?" He kindly broke it to me that I had fallen asleep in the last 15 minutes. Guess I better start watching movies before 7 if I want to see the end...

Happy (early) Mother's Day!

Mother's Day is still days away, and I've already been blessed with some precious flowers from my wonderful friends! I feel like both baby AND me are going to get spoiled during this pregnancy!

Me and the hubby

Just thought I'd post a few of me and the hubby. This is from our recent trip to Florida, which took place the week prior to finding out Baby is on the way! We didn't know this was going to be our "baby-moon", but we had a great time and I'm sure we'll look back on this trip fondly!

Cleaning Closets

Yes, we know, it is far too early to begin "prepping" the baby's room. But we saw no harm in cleaning out the closet and moving its belongings to another room's partially filled closet so that we at least have a clean slate to work in the coming months! Check out the closet shelf... baby Cunningham has already received two very thoughtful gifts from some very sweet friends! (And yes, that's a steam cleaner sitting in the corner of the room. It's a work in progress.)

First Baby Bloat (not bump!) picture

This first pic is all bloat, no real bump yet... nevertheless we wanted to take a "starter" pic. Here it is, 7 weeks, 4 days!

2nd try at blogging

I have to post something to get this one going! This is my second attempt at blogging (see my previous and weak attempt at, make sure to scroll all the way down to the first two posts which were the best if you check it out). Not able to post the whole background of this blog right now, but I am anxious to get going so I can post updates! More to come...
