hanging in the high chair

One of the things I love about how our house is laid out is how open everything is (and that we have tons of room....we know we're blessed!) Thus, we've been able to set up Troy's high chair even though he doesn't "need" it yet to eat or anything. When I'm cooking dinner I like to roll the chair into the kitchen and interact with him while I'm cooking. Today he was in an awfully good mood while we cooked. And I ended up snapping pictures because, gosh, its hard to get anything done with this little guy and his smiles!

hard day at the office

Though Troy spends a good amount of time (about 25 hrs a week) at Gwynne's house while I work in the office, inevitably he ends up at the church once or twice a week while I get some things done. Yesterday happened to be one of those times. Apparently the task of revising five church campus' programs wasn't too thrilling...

roll over! and another first

We have a roller! Tonight Troy rolled over, from front to back, for the first, second, third, fourth....times. When I finally caught it on video it was his third or fourth roll and he seemed a bit frustrated. Apparently rolling over isn't that fun for him, but it was fun for me!

And then there's the other first. I've heard friends of mine say don't blog about things that are going really well for fear that they might change but I want this one documented...last night was the first night Troy slept through the night! Woot! He went down at about 7:45 and woke up at 5:30 this morning! He ate and went back to bed for another hour but I stayed up and started my day. Partially because I was so excited he actually did it! Now to repeat it in future nights...

Sunday cuteness

Pretty sure Mike is against vests of any kind in Troy's wardrobe but I couldn't pass this adorable little Gap one up when I found it for $1 yesterday!

"first" time in the nursery

I use the word "first" loosely because we're going to pretend that he didn't go last weekend for the real first time and we didn't end up getting paged since he was hungry....

But tonight was Troy's "first" official trip to the nursery at church. After Mike has checked in countless kids and I've been on the receiving end of the nursery counter many times, tonight I checked Troy in and dropped him off with some familiar faces (at least to me!) in the nursery. I have to work during the services this weekend so I was a little nervous after our first run and I was totally "that mom" with all the instructions, but he did great!

Look at me! I've got a nametag!
I've said it before but I'll say it again, I'm so glad that we're a part of such an amazing church and that our family will be blessed by a wonderful children's ministry. One of the things that excited me the most about the Vineyard when I first started attending was that I could not WAIT to have our kids grow up there. And now its just cool to see that starting to happen :)

troy has something to say

I was hoping to trim out my obnoxious noises to prompt Troy to talk before posting but my editing software won't let me trim videos taken with my regular camera. Nevertheless, here Troy has something to say!

spring cleaning

Last weekend Mike was home (for the first time in five weekends!) and we had a lot of things on our "to-do" list. Among those? Some tidying up in the basement, where Mike plans to finish off our partially started bathroom later this summer. As you can see from the pics below, we got sidetracked by two particularly large stuffed animals from Troy's Gigi (responsible for the dog) and Granny Riley (responsible for the duck)...

This dog is trying to eat me!

Chilling with my dawgs...I mean, dogs! But why do we call this brown one a bear?!

We asked Troy to pick his favorite out of the line up...

Neither Troy nor Bear look amused. Troy says, "Aren't you two done with this yet?!"

a very awesome live-in nanny

I never thought I'd be the type of woman to have a live-in nanny. In fact, for a short period of my life I thought I myself wanted to be somebody else's live-in nanny! But this week we got a sweet little taste of what that might be like. Except this live-in nanny came with a genetic connection to our boy... yep, Gramma showed up to help out this week while Gwynne was on a week off for spring break!

This very awesome live-in nanny spoiled Troy. And Bear. And Mike. And me. With lots of love and care. Troy and Bear got three walks during one work day earlier this week. I got some extra rest and a huge helping hand around the house. Mike and I got some delicious food. And we're very grateful for this very awesome live-in nanny!

Snoozing in the fresh air.

Yep I'm promoting this site and no I'm not getting paid for it :)

I think Holly turned me on to this site initially in finding out that you can actually have your blog printed out, arranged in a book, bound and delivered to your doorstep. I thought this was a great idea to not only have our blog living on the web, but to have a detailed journal of our year printed out and able to flip through. Last week, this showed up on my doorstep!
Overall I'm very pleased and am sure I will do this at the end of each year (motivation to keep blogging consistently!) It wasn't that expensive and right before I checked out, I googled discount codes and got an extra 15% off! You can't do a lot with the text as far as enlarging it, different fonts, etc and the quality of the pictures isn't the absolute best BUT you're not really paying for a kodak picture book, for me it was more of a story of 2010, complete with pictures. Thanks, blog2print, see you again next year!

Being the pretty easy-going 3 1/2 month old baby that he is, Troy has so far indulged his extroverted mother in a number of "play"dates. I use the word play loosely as Troy is just starting to understand toys and playing with them on his own, let alone with other babies. Yet the excitement of plopping my adorable baby down next to a friend's adorable baby has yet to get old and I wonder if it ever will!

Owen and Troy hanging out in their green on St Patrick's Day. I love the looks on both their faces!Owen's parents and Mike and I are all in the same mini-group for our new marriage group that we're in so we're gladly getting to see Owen and his parents more often these days. A week before, Troy was intently looking up to Owen as he got to sit at the dinner table and eat "big kid" food!

Here's Troy and Liam playing at our house. When Su and I met last summer, we knew we'd be getting together often to let these boys play together (its so great we live just a block away!) Check out this blog post from January where Liam and Troy "played" for the first time! Troy looks soooo tiny!

Every few weeks I plop Troy in this awesome contraption we borrowed from the Melbys to see if he is ready to hang out in it a little bit. Today he finally was! He seems big enough to hold himself up in it and he likes looking at everything. A little bit longer and he'll actually be able to jump :)

quality time

After several weekends on the road, we're thrilled to have Mike home all weekend! He even got out a few hours early today to join Troy and I on our Friday afternoon. We were all relaxing and I had Mike take a few shots of Troy and I playing...

100% cute

This onesie is a little cheesier than I typically dress my son in (no offense to people who typically gravitate to these kinds of things!) but there's a story...
I bought this in the baby section at Meijer the day I found out I was pregnant with Troy and put it in the grocery bags for Mike to unpack at home. After taking a test in the morning, i had all day to think about how I'd tell Mike that we were in fact pregnant at the end of the day. I don't think I got much work done that day and this was the best (er, only) idea I came up with. I was totally in shock I think. But anyways, Troy fits in it now so I had to snap a shot of him in it. Most creative idea ever? Not at all. But its a little piece of Cunningham family history :)

Today is just one of those days where I look at my little boy and think he looks an awful lot like his daddy :) I love my boys!

Happy St Patty's Day!

Troy had his green on today? Did you?

We were delighted that it hit 70 degrees for the first time today! I suggested to my co-workers that we have a team picnic at the park, and since Troy doesn't go to daycare until after lunch, he got to join us at Crystal Lake Park.

Then after work we had a spur of the moment playdate with Owen, another green-wearing baby (I need some of your pics Emily, I'm sure they're adorable!) and went out for a true St Patty's day meal...Mexican food at Dos! Okay, not quite authentic Irish!

Mark Zuckerber hates babies

Today we mourn the loss of something great. Something that brought great joy to all those involved. There were smiles. Smiles that filled the countless photos. There were laughs. Cute little child like laughs that filled the friends list with joy.

Today we lost one of our own. has closed down the account of Troy Michael Cunningham. That's right. It pains me to even say those words. I received no notification, only the loss of log in. And now my pain is your pain. You too have lost a friend. Seriously, you have. Go check your friend list and you will see that you are down one person. One small, bright, bubbly person who brought joy to millions of people. Ok, roughly Troy had about 100 friends, but he was well on his way to millions.

I have decided in protest to call the website from here on out. It started as an evil idea that has grown into an evil empire.

Oh myspace....where for art my Myspace.

27 dresses...I mean, jackets

Reason 853 (or something like that) why my mom is awesome. All I did was mention to my mom that I was having a hard time finding some sort of lightweight jacket for Troy for the spring (who knew they aren't very common in sizes under 12 months?) and Mom went and rounded up every possible jacket she could find at her mall for us to try on in the comfort of our home (with all the ones that are too big going back).

Troy wasn't super thrilled with the at-home fashion show but I reminded him it was better than trying things on at the store (at least for me it was...I'd much rather him crying here than out at a store!)
Thanks so much, Mom! Now Troy will be styling (and warm!) this spring!

orange and blue

It's about time this kid fit into some of his orange and blue clothing!

a lovely friday evening

Troy and I had a wonderful Friday evening tonight. Tummy time (complete with lots of drool), lots of playing and off to bed he went...and we snapped a few new prospective facebook profile pics for mike (i mean, troy) to choose from.

3 months old

Look who is three months old today! I just took this when we got home today, so it is his "official" three month pic. Lots of updates on Troy:

Eating: This seems to have leveled out a bit in the last month. He takes 5-6 oz bottles at Gwynne's and eats fairly regularly when I'm with him all day. So nice to have (some) predictability in his schedule!

Sleeping: Until getting sick this past weekend, Troy had been sleeping great. He would go down between 8 and 9 and sleep for 7 to 8 hours, then get up, eat and go back down for another 2 hours or so. The last few nights have been a mess, but I'm praying he bounces back to this schedule in the coming days...

Playing: I can say that Troy actually likes to "play" now. He has started reaching for toys and grabbing on to them (especially handy on our road trip to St Louis while I attempted to entertain him while he was awake). He still loves his activity mat and his favorite toy is a stuffed caterpillar from the Eric Carle book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". It goes with us everywhere! He also looks at the pages when he's read to fun!

Clothes: All the 0-3 month clothes (with very few exceptions) have been put away and he's in 3-6 month clothes. Same with diapers, there's just a few random size 1s hanging around and we're into size 2s. I enjoyed shopping at the Carter's Outlet with Mom a few weeks ago for 3-6 month outfits, but I'm going to miss some of those tiny 0-3 month clothes!

Likes: Sucking his thumb (see photo). Laughing (see video). Smiling. Watching us do anything really. "Talking" to us. Baths (still).

Dislikes: Being sick (who does?). Burping (still). Going places when he just wants to stay home (it breaks my heart when he cries as I pack him up for daycare during his prime happy time in the morning. argh.) That's about it.

sick day

Our boy had his first sick day today... not a first I was looking forward to as a mom :( He has had a cold all weekend but yesterday (Sunday) seemed to be a lot better. Not so. After his 5am wakeup today, I knew he'd need a day at home to get on the mend. After a lot of sleep and a lot of food, Troy seemed to be doing a bit better tonight. We also were able to get some chores done and I came across this collection of stuffed animals that Troy's Granny Riley (Mike's Mom) made and sent to us. I pulled three of them out of the box for him to play with and he seemed to like the giraffe the best :)

our little warrior

While at a women's conference at Alicia's new church (the St Louis Vineyard) yesterday, Troy received his first prophetic words! A prophetic word is simply a word that someone receives from God to encourage and build up someone else (that's how I understand it, at least!) One of the conference facilitators (someone we had never met or talked to) called out Troy and said she got the words "warrior" and "gentleman" for him. That he would be a warrior for the Kingdom of God, but also for women (the gentleman part). Two things a mother loves to hear about her little boy! What made it even more awesome? Guess what the meaning of the name "Troy" is? Footsoldier (warrior). Awesome confirmation and so cool!

After the conference ended, Troy and I headed back to the hotel to relax with Mike for a few hours before dinner.

As Troy settled down for his evening nap, we headed out once again and went to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner (yum!). One of Mike's colleagues (and an Olympian pole vaulter!) and his family joined us, as well as one of the other instructors from Mike's clinic this weekend. And now Troy has officially shared more meals with Olympic athletes in his first three months than I did in my first 25 years!

road trip! st louis

Troy and I decided to tag along on Mike's work trip to St Louis this weekend. The car ride went great and we enjoyed some time with Mike yesterday before he had to teach. Then Troy and I went shopping at Crate and Barrel (he ran out of patience very quickly) and met up with Alicia for a women's event at her new church! Unfortunately the little guy's nose is very stuffy and he had a hard time sleeping last night. Hoping that you feel much better today, Troy!
Look at me... I'm on a road trip!

I claim this bed all to myself...

Stuffy nose won't stop me from having fun!
